The experience

The experience in Irpinia

Are you ready to fully experience the culture and traditions of your ancestors?

Our roots journey begins from the enchanting and evocative villages of the Campania hinterland, forgotten but fundamental places in the social and cultural architecture of the region: we are in IRPINIA!

The winding alleys, the portals, the fountains, the town squares, the castles and historical buildings tell millenary stories of a population that still preserves the cultural traditions of the past.

This itinerary is a journey that aims to regenerate and keep these traditions alive, involving you in experiences that go beyond simple tourism.

You will literally live and connect with your roots and the history of the place through interactive activities, such as artisanal stone engraving, straw and wood working tutoring, you will learn about nativity scene art and you will learn how to taste the typical food and wine products local.

Irpinia is a land rich in intangible heritage. The traditions of wheat carts, true works of art finely decorated with symbolic and religious elements, have their origins in the cultivation of wheat and traditional agriculture. The Region is renowned for its fine wines, for the production of extra virgin olive oil, chestnut and hazelnut groves, for its local cuisine made of handmade pasta and meat and cheese specialities.

You will participate in the most authentic local festivals which represent an opportunity to share not only food, but also the stories and customs that have shaped Irpinia culture over the centuries.

Our route includes not only stops in rural areas but also visits to the most well-known and famous attractions in the region. This combination of ancient and modern will allow you to appreciate both the traditions rooted in the past and the evolution and modernization of these communities over time.

Between "calcare", "neviere", ancient crafts and an immersion in chestnut groves and olive groves

Continue your adventure by exploring the charming historic village of Aterrana, a unique combination of history, art and medieval traditions, full of picturesque views and ancient streets that tell centuries-old stories.

Explore the “Calcare”, ancient cylindrical stone ovens, witnesses of an ancient production of lime, used for construction, imagine the constant fire that “cooked” the stones for days, creating quicklime.

Discover the beauty of the Balzi del Guacci Caves, a Mesolithic site that preserves remains of the life of post-glacial semi-nomadic hunting populations.

Walk through the centuries-old chestnut groves above the village and enjoy the tranquility of nature. Stop around a fire for a tasting of the company’s products, including honey, hazelnuts, oil and chestnuts, and rediscover the flavors of tradition by having lunch outdoors on a chestnut wood table.

In the afternoon you can immerse yourself in the past thanks to the Small Museum of Papaciccio, where the peasant tradition comes to life through objects that have marked everyday life and working life in past centuries. At the end of the tour, an engaging artisan workshop awaits you: create traditional chestnut wood baskets, witnesses of a time when manual skills were an integral part of daily life.
