“The Neapolitan dialect: from the language of emigration to the return towards the origins"

The experience

The workshop is a unique experience that allows you to discover the linguistic heritage of the Neapolitan language. It addresses to all those people who have Campania origins and who wish to deepen their knowledge of the language of their fathers.

The workshops aims to convey the distinctive features and salient points of the Neapolitan dialect to the roots tourists. Its historical origins, its literature, its musicality, the important characters who spread it throughout the world and its captivating words. The participant will be guided by experts in the Neapolitan language and will be able to learn the ways of saying and gesticulating, as well as the Neapolitan songs (e.g. by Murolo, Pavarotti, Ranieri, Villa) which more than anyone else have contributed to the popularity of Naples throughout the world. You will discover how Neapolitan language is intertwined with Latin, Greek, French, Spanish, Portuguese… and more!

The class of participants will learn to sing and play a Neapolitan song with a touch of interculturality: each participant will be able to include the way of dancing and playing with musical instruments from their “host land” merging them with those of their finally “rediscovered land”. The participant thus becomes the protagonist of a winning combination that links local traditions with international cultural contamination: discovering fluid and constantly learning roots!
